I figured I’d give you all a tour of our first week of ministry. It’s kind of fun, because every week is going to look different, so there should always be plenty to tell you all about!
On Sunday, we led worship, since the normal worship team was on holiday break. We were all making jokes on how all the musical talent is on the other teams, but I think the people who volunteered did a great job!
On Monday, we started our morning off with an hour of prayer and worship (as we would every morning afterwards), then jumped right into painting the classrooms for the Bible College! I was glad we started so early, because the sun heated up the classrooms like a sauna!
We finished by 2:30 and had team time at 3:00. Dinner was started shortly afterwards, so everything could be cleaned up by 6:00, when we hosted our first worship night. Unfortunately, everyone was on holiday, so we were the onlybpeople to show up, but it was still so good!
On Tuesday, we had planned for our first Kids’ Day, but again, everyone was on holiday, so we finished painting rooms and did other odd tasks until noon. There wasn’t anything to do afterwards, so we split off into groups and explored the town a bit!
On Wednesday, since it was New Year’s Day, we had no ministry, so we spent the day exploring town more and recovering from a late night! Even though we didn’t have to, we still chose to do a night of worship, and it was so good again! And we actually had someone show up (it was someone who lives on base with us, but still)!
On Thursday, we had 3 kids show up for our second Kids’ Day. There are 15 of us, so instead of overwhelming the kids, we had a few people stay with them, while the rest of did other tasks. I helped organize the kitchen, until there was nothing left to organize. Then, I joined the group playing with the kids, until it was time for them to leave.
On Friday, we cleaned the church again for Saturday’s ministry, and I spent all the morning fetching water for the carpet cleaner, but it was great to have such a long time of working!
On Saturday, we each had different roles to help with the Park Run, a 5K fundraiser set up for the school! I helped man the muffin/coffee/water station, and it was so sweet to help in this way!
And that’s our week of ministry!
Happy New Year! Sounds like you are adjusting well and did not get overwhelmed with kids on break. Can’t go wrong with Worship that’s for sure. Glad you’re getting to know your surroundings and adjusting well! Enjoy the warmth it’s pretty chilly back here. Zero last night 🥶
