Ever since Training Camp, there’s been an imposter among us. No one has confessed, and likely no one will, but we have someone who loves shoe-related pranks.

We’d come down from our SMP (Squad Meeting Point), and find that someone was missing their shoes. The first time, it was Cimmie’s shark shoes (sandals that look like sharks), so we knew it was meant to be funny and noticeable, but we weren’t able to find them for the rest of the day. Finally, we found them in the freezer!!!

A few more shoes went missing in the weeks following–in the vending machine, on the door, on top of the fridge–but it eventually died down. We thought we were safe.

Then we made it to the Guatemalan base, where a new player was introduced. Manuel, our head of security, personal chaperone, and prankster extraordinaire.

It started so innocently. Jess slept in late one morning, so Manuel took the liberty of sticking one of her shoes on the rafter, as revenge.

Jess looking for her shoe. Note the single shoe on her foot!

“He’s out to get me! This man!” Jess said, after the pranks had escalated to her backpack, phone, and all 3 pairs of her shoes going missing, at one point or another.

Then it spread.

Last night, all the racks we keep our shoes on were switched around. Le fe Cinco was in front of Jubilee. Jubilee was in front of Rivers. Rivers was in front of Room 8 (along with single shoes, randomly selected from the other racks). Doves was in front of Steadfast. Steadfast was in front of Le fe Cinco. Only the leaders’ were left untouched.

So, naturally, we’re going to get Manuel back at some point in the future, but that’s under wraps for now (so don’t tell anyone).

So yeah, there’s a taste of life with a bunch of teenagers/young adults and one practical-joke loving staff member!

(Also, I just want to clarify, we love Manuel. He’s hilarious and so perfect at what he does. I just wanted to share the post in a more dramatic tone😆)
