It’s May 22nd, my last day seeing the people I’ve spent all day, every day with for the last 9 months. We’ve been on the field together for about 253 (if I did my math correctly) days. About 4,048 hours have been spent awake together (assuming one gets 8 hours of sleep a night). For reference, it takes over 200 hours to form a close friend, so you can imagine I’m quite close with my Squad by this point.
And now, to borrow from one of my first blogs. The goodbyes have been said. The items have been packed. The plane is about to be boarded.
This is a sad day, 100%. I’ve been living in such a different culture that my transition home is probably going to be as much of a culture shock as going to my first country!
But I’m excited! I’ve missed my family and I’m excited to do God’s work in my home town! In a few short hours, I’m going to get picked up by my parents, and in another few short hours, I’m going to get to see my siblings and dogs for the first time in 9 months!
And that’s all I’ll say, because soon I can say everything in person!
